Mr Paul Coulthard - Physiotherapy

pecial interests - Inpatient elective orthopaedic surgery. Paul also manages a cohort of outpatients predominantly lower limb post-surgery. As part of his continual professional development he attends annual conferences for Quality Improvement for Surgical Teams (QIST) to maintain evidence-based practice.

Academic Background

BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy 2:1 classification 2009 Paul excelled as a mature student especially during his time at Wrightington Hospital in the specialty of Elective Orthopaedics in 2008. He graduated in 2009 from University of Salford. Pauls first qualified position in 2009 was at Trafford General in Elective surgery working for BMI healthcare for 12 months. He then accepted a full time position at Southport and Ormskirk NHS trust in 2010. This post involved rotations in Trauma and Elective Orthopaedics, General Surgery and Respiratory Medicine including ITU, gym and outpatients. He secured a Senior Physiotherapist position in 2012 and worked predominantly in Orthopaedics 6 monthly rotations in Trauma, 6 months in elective surgery for over a period of 2 years. Paul gained substantial expertise and experience regarding this specialty and this led to me applying for a senior position at Renacres Hospital which he secured in 2016. He has an excellent rapport and reputation with ward colleagues and a number of Orthopaedic surgeons at Renacres. In addition, he has a profound knowledge of the "patient journey" and the wider healthcare setting within Sefton and West Lancashire. This allows him to provide a thorough and comprehensive in-patient service at Renacres. This includes thorough pre-operative assessment including identifying any therapeutic equipment or community services, excellent inpatient therapy during hospital stay and subesequent follow up therapy as a post-surgical outpatient. Paul adopts a holistic approach to his work with integrity and strive to provide an excellent and informed Physiotherapy service to all his patients.


Mrs Victoria Downey - Physiotherapy

Vicki is our vestibular physiotherapist at Renacres Hospital, with a special interest in balance and dizziness conditions. She also works extensively in pain management and is able to provide acupuncture, rehabilitation exercise, manual therapy and other therapeutic techniques.

Academic Background

Qualifying with a 2:1 degree in Physiotherapy from Manchester University in 1995, Vicki worked in diverse areas of the NHS and Private Practice before joining Ramsay in 2014. She has taken part in continuous professional development throughout her career, completing courses in acupuncture, manual therapy, biopsychosocial approaches, Society of Orthopaedic Medicine and vestibular rehabilitation.


Mrs Helen Evans - Physiotherapy

Musculoskeletal physiotherapist with a special interest in acupuncture.

Academic Background

Helen qualified with a 2:1 in Physiotherapy from Sheffield Hallam University in 1997. She began working for the NHS with Southport and Formby NHS Trust where she rotated around several areas including, out patients, medical/surgical wards, Regional Spinal injuries Centre,Orthopaedics and respiratory. Helen moved to the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary in Wigan in 1999 where she worked on medical, surgical wards and ITU over a 2 year period. She then moved back to Southport Hospital where she worked on the Regional Spinal injuries unit for 2 years before moving to a role in Musculoskeletal outpatients, assessing and treating complex conditions, arranging appropriate investigations and referring for appropriate management. Helen completed her acupuncture training in 2000.


Mrs Cath Morris - Physiotherapy

Academic Background

Cath qualified in 1987 from Salford. She worked at Walton for 2 years as a junior physiotherapist. She then spent a year at St James' in Leeds before coming back to Merseyside, Whiston hospital onto a musculoskeletal training post. In 1992 Cath went to Broadgreen as a Senior 1 in Out Patients, before transferring to the Royal Liverpool as a Superintendent III, ESP, leading the Back Pain Service. In 2001 she took a career break whilst her children were small, intending to return in a year. In the interim she worked for the local PCT, British Lung Foundation and DoH. Cath completed RHS Level 2 Horticulture, volunteered at a young onset dementia garden and then completed a Diploma in Horticulture as therapy at Coventry University. Following this Cath worked with adults with young onset dementia, in a horticulture setting; worked in a school for boys with behavioural difficulties and then set up a horticulture project for young adults with learning difficulties. In 2015 Cath decided to revalidate as a physiotherapist and came to Renacres to do this. She has worked at Renacres since then, completed her acupuncture training in Dec 2018 and is waiting to do BAHT course as soon as possible.


Mr James Olverson - Physiotherapy

Academic Background

Qualified as a Sports therapist in 2012 from Edgehill University, Qualify as a physiotherapist from Manchester metropolitan university in 2016. James completed NHS core rotations first after qualitfying and following that he took a role working at Ramsay Helath Care as a Musculoskeletal physiotherapist at Euxton Hall Hospital before moving to Renacres Hospital. Along side this James currently works in elite professional sports including football and tennis. James is currently studying towards his MSc in Sports and Exercise Medicine at Manchester metropolitan university.


Ms Zoe Stafford - Physiotherapy

Zoe is a physiotherapy technician, currently in training, and you will find her on the ward helping patients after orthopedic surgery.

Academic Background

A qualified sports massage therapist, Zoe has worked several years in massage therapy before deciding to broaden her learning path and skills. She has been working with the Renacres Physiotherapy team since January 2018.
