Knee Ligament Reconstruction

His current research interests include fixation of ligament grafts in cruciate ligament reconstruction, minimally invasive hip and knee surgery and the application of computers to assist in specific minimally invasive surgical procedures striving to improve outcomes, in knee replacement and hip reconstruction.

He specialises in arthritic problems around the hip, knee and ankle joints, particularly in young adults.

For hip related problems, Mr Mohammed utilises the techniques of hip arthroscopy, metal on metal prosthesis, including resurfacing hip surgery.

For the knee joint he uses conservative measures including braces and Hyaluronic Acid injections and ultimately knee replacement undertaking a partial joint replacement if possible.

He also provides the up to date techniques for the management of sports injury including hip arthroscopy for soft tissue problems of the hip joint.  For the knee, cruciate ligament reconstruction, meniscal repair and reparative techniques for damaged articular cartilage(chondrocyte implantation and mosaicplasty).

Mr Mohammed is taking part in a 10-year prospective MRC trial to assess the efficacy of autologous chondrocyte implantation compared with micro fracture for articular cartilage defects, and feels that the teaching and training of future generations of orthopaedic surgeons is of vital importance.

He is involved in running courses on joint replacement surgery and soft tissue reconstruction with cadaveric facilities here and abroad.
